Catalogue of work on show in North Street Gallery

This beautiful gallery is set in the heart of Bedminster, surrounded by independent shops, cafes, and near to the iconic Tobacco Factory. 15 minutes’ stroll from The M Shed or Ashton Gate stadium.

From the iconic 17th Century Christmas Steps to the rugged coastal path, all my oil paintings are painted from life, capturing salty air and birdsong.

For those who can’t make it in person, this catalogue can be used to buy my work online (free UK postage).

Catalogue

All canvases are painted in oil, varnished and framed. Working from life, I aim to capture what it feels like to be in a place. With freshness and traces of process.

Raft Of The Medusa II - 100x70cm (framed)
£2,000.00

This narrative painting is oil on canvas, structurally based on Théodore Géricault’s epic “The Raft Of The Medusa”.

It is a self portrait as womankind - showing common experiences across culture and time. There are two versions: This one was painted for display at the Russell Cotes Museum & Art Gallery, as it was a finalist in The Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize exhibition

The larger one (1.6 x 2.3m) was shown at The Mall Galleries (London) in the 164th annual exhibition of the Society of Women Artists.

Please note, because of the size, pickup from my Studio is preferable to postage. Free coffee and a studio tour included!

Raft Of The Medusa II (domestic version!)

Clifton Suspension Bridge at low tide 18x14" (framed)
£400.00

The Avon Gorge, painted outside, from life in oil on canvas board. Complete with 2 composition sketches done at the start. I love the silty muddy banks, the tide wasn’t quite out at the time. Varnished and framed in a light ash brown coloured wood 'float' frame.

Harbourside with Pero's bridge 12x12" (framed)
£350.00

Painted outside, from life on a very blustery day. Scudding clouds, intense showers, then brilliant sunshine. You can see from the foreground shadows I was under the shelter of a tree. Oil on canvas board, Varnished and framed in a light ash brown coloured wood 'float' frame.

Redland Park 8.5x10" (framed)
£270.00

Painted on location, looking towards the allotments, in oil on canvas board. Beautifully framed in solid wood

Bristol Harbourside from aboard The Matthew 16x12" (framed)
£380.00

Painted outside, from the bow of the ship The Matthew, on a very sunny day. You can see the Arnolfini, The Balmoral, The M Shed and the cranes. Oil on canvas board, varnished and framed in a deep white wood frame (not shown).

Lemon tondo 32cm diameter (framed)
£280.00

Painted from life. This original oil painting is painted on canvas wrapped over a wooden frame. It is framed 'floating' in a light bare wood round frame.

The Grand Union Canal, near Denham Lock 12x10" (framed)
£300.00

Painted from life, my daughter Izzi and I sat in the dappled shade for a glorious few hours. There are always interesting characters on canal paths, stopping to see what you’re up to and having a chat. The bridge in the distance seemed to be derelict, and unmarked on maps. Denham Deep Lock is behind the viewer. Oil on canvas board, varnished and framed in a white painted wood 'float' frame.

Christmas lights on Christmas Steps (12x10") (framed)
£300.00

Painted in oil, from life, on a freezing cold December weekend in Bristol. I love the flat winter light, how the old buildings loom, and the interiors glow. We warmed up afterwards in The Christmas Steps pub on the left. Signed, varnished and framed in white wood tray frame.

Pulteney Bridge, Bath 12x10" (framed)
£300.00

Painted in oil, from life on a beautiful April morning in Bath. Tourists on the opposite side of the River Avon were leaning on the balustrade enjoying the view the other way. Varnished and framed in a minimal white solid wood tray frame - this is painted on linen stretched round a wood frame.

Bath Abbey and Guildhall 12x8" (framed)
£200.00

Painted in oil, from life on a beautiful April afternoon in Bath. I loved how the sun caught the very edges of the Abbey tower, and how the bounced light from the sunlit front of the Guildhall warmed the shaded facets of the building. Varnished framed in a minimal white solid wood tray frame - this is painted on linen stretched round a wood frame.

Birnbeck Pier Landward Buildings 12x12" (framed)
£350.00

Painted outside, from life on a very sunny day. These buildings will hopefully benefit from the first wave of the pier regeneration project. Oil on canvas board, varnished and framed in a deep white wood frame (not shown).

Glastonbury Tor on Summer Evening 10x12" (framed)
£300.00

Painted from life in oil on canvas board. Varnished and framed in a white solid wood frame. Read about the painting expedition here

RNLI Sennen Cove lifeboat station slipway 12x10" (framed)
£300.00

Painted from life, just a mile North of Land’s End, in Cornwall. With the original composition sketch stuck to the back! The bathers of Sennen Cove beach are just visible between the pillars. Oil on canvas board, varnished in a solid wood white frame, with the location composition sketch included free.

Daffodils at Glastonbury Abbey 8x10" (framed)
£200.00

Glastonbury Abbey. Painted from life, I was drawn to the way the first mow of the year had skirted round the remains of a wall in the foreground, and the daffodils peeping through the Abbey building. Oil on canvas board, varnished with a minimal white painted solid wood frame.

The Rhenish Tower, Lynmouth, Devon 5x7" (framed)
£130.00

Painted from life, this tiny oil on canvas board breaks the compositional rule of thirds, having the horizon slap bang in the middle. I felt the whole scene was awkward, in a nice way, so it seemed appropriate! I had to work quickly, it was windy, choppy, and the sea mist was coming down over the hill. Varnished and framed in a solid wood white painted 'float' frame.

Prawle Orthostats 12x10" (framed)
£300.00

Oil on canvas board, these ancient boundary markers look like teeth, jutting out from the gorse and grass. Painted on location on the South Devon Coastal Path near Prawle. Varnished and framed in a minimal white solid wood frame.

Prawle Point 7x5" (framed)
£130.00

Oil on canvas board, this is a view of the “Horse’s Head” that juts out into the sea below the Lookout. Painted on location from the South Devon Coastal Path near Prawle. Solid wood frame included.

Babbacombe 12x16"cm (framed)
£350.00

Although it was nearly lunchtime, the light was really just starting to hit the path on this April morning. As I painted it was also streaming through the trees behind me, forming beautiful shadows on the path. The local swimmers said this was the best day so far this year for water clarity and weather. Varnished and framed in solid wood white frame, oil on canvas board.

Prawle rocks 16x16" (framed)
£350.00

Painted from life, just west of Prawle Point, on the South Devon coast. With composition sketch stuck to the back! The Lookout is just visible on the horizon. Oil on canvas board, varnished in a solid wood white frame, with the location composition sketch included free.

The favourite knife (oil on canvas board, framed)
£250.00

Cutting up the garlic is often my first start when cooking. Pepper, salt, and a squeeze of lemon happen at the end. Oil on canvas, painted from life. 25x30cm plus solid wood painted frame.
