Drawn in preparation for Amit’s oil portrait, commissioned by the Centre for Appearance Research. These two original drawings are in coloured pencil on kraft paper. They were done to compare and contrast the options to accentuate or downplay Amit’s visible difference in the context of the portrait. Click here to see Amit’s reaction to these portraits during the livestream. Both pictures are framed with a deep profile mount card and simple oak frame. They can be purchased individually or as a pair.
Oil on canvas board, this is a view of the “Horse’s Head” that juts out into the sea below the Lookout. Painted on location from the South Devon Coastal Path near Prawle. Solid wood frame included.

Oil on canvas, featuring Steve Litson (cemetery keeper)
Painted from life, in the shade of an olive tree, with the cicadas chirping. The grass and ground were bleached by the beating sun. The shadow of the wall was blue from the intense blue sky. Varnished and framed in a white painted wood 'float' frame.
Painted from life, this tiny oil on canvas board breaks the compositional rule of thirds, having the horizon slap bang in the middle. I felt the whole scene was awkward, in a nice way, so it seemed appropriate! I had to work quickly, it was windy, choppy, and the sea mist was coming down over the hill. Varnished and framed in a solid wood white painted 'float' frame.
Painted from life, my daughter Izzi and I sat in the dappled shade for a glorious few hours. There are always interesting characters on canal paths, stopping to see what you’re up to and having a chat. Oil on canvas board, varnished and framed in a white painted wood 'float' frame.

Vias beach on the Longuedoc coast
Oil on canvas board, painted from life on the beach in France.

A study of light, form, translucency and texture. Oil on canvas board, discretely framed, painted from life, in preparation for the painting ‘Optimism in the face of doom’ (nb lemons!)

Painted from life. This original oil painting is professionally framed in minimal white solid wood frame.

The Avon Gorge, painted from life. Oil on stretched canvas. To me this captures the a gusty day, with the tidal river Avon’s characteristic silky warm brown colour. Although it was sunny, I had to have one hand on the easel to stop the large canvas blowing off the flyover into the water! If you look very closely you may be able to spot the controversial rainbow canopy, in the picturesque Georgian terrace in Clifton. Because the sides edges are mostly unpainted, it would look best in a tray frame.

Painted from life, on gesso’d plywood, in a style I don’t use often, applying thick impasto oils. I tried to suggest the nature of things with texture, and pick up on the dark shadows made by strong French sun. This could be hung unframed with a D ring on the back, or set into a tray frame.
Glastonbury Abbey. Painted from life, I was drawn to the way the first mow of the year had skirted round the remains of a wall in the foreground, and the daffodils peeping through the Abbey building. Oil on canvas board, varnished with a white painted solid wood frame.

Painted from life, I pulled over by the side of the road while driving to Glastonbury, and stood on the edge of a field. Oil on canvas board, varnished and framed in white solid wood deep profile frame.
Painted from life in oil on canvas board. Varnished and framed in a white solid wood frame. Read about the painting expedition here
Painted on location, looking towards the allotments, in oil on canvas board. Beautifully framed in solid wood

Painted in oil on canvas on board from life, looking out along the pier from the shade of a cafe. I love the rusted turquoise railings, so Brighton! This original painting was longlisted for the Jackson’s painting prize 2023, and is framed in a white wood frame. The original composition sketch is stuck to the back
Oil on canvas board, these ancient boundary markers look like teeth, jutting out from the gorse and grass. Painted on location on the South Devon Coastal Path near Prawle. Varnished and framed in a deep solid wood frame in a complimentary dark blue-grey.

Oil on canvas board, painted on location. The foreground hulk is the remains of the Severn Collier, with a concrete and iron ship behind it. I used loose brush strokes and scratched into the paint to create the texture of the dry wood. The blue-green grass seemed to me to echo the waves of the sea. Scudding clouds and the Severn estuary in the background. For more information on the place, see Purton Hulks. Please note the photo of the unframed painting is more true to the colour of the actual oil painting.
Painted in oil on board from life, looking out along lake Windermere… the geese, swans, crows and gulls are very tame… unless you’re a dog! This original painting is varnished and framed in a solid wood frame.

This handmade oil painting shows a slice of the sea view from the grounds of The Manor House Hotel. Framed in a simple wood frame. Only one available. Painted on location.
This original oil painting was done from life in Paris. It was freezing cold and raining. Oil on canvas around a box frame, so can be hung as it is or framed.

Inspired by John Singer Sargent’s painting of octopi, this is from my ongoing series of seafood still lifes. Beautifully presented in a solid walnut wood frame. Including the frame, the work measures 30x41x2cm

Hand printed linocut on white paper. Professionally mounted and framed. Only two left from the edition, one framed one not.
Painted from life after a trip to the market. Spanish sun suits tomato growing. I only wanted a couple to paint then eat, but the stallholder insisted I took the pepper that's lurking in the bag. This original oil painting is professionally framed in a minimal white solid wood frame. The cloth is the same one in the Foraged Figs, Fennel and Filthy Lucre painting.
