Gallery of oil paintings
Oil paintings are a luxurious traditional medium, allowing a full expressive range of colour and brushstrokes. Much of this work was commissioned, but some are still available in my shop , or you can commission your own.
The eponymous artwork of the Dungscape project, this pair of framed oil paintings uses traditional techniques to capture a rewilded landscape. Set at Knepp wilding estate, the diurnal and nocturnal canvases stand as individual compositions, and connect visually into a single scene. The flora and fauna are the ecosystem around healthy dung… from the tiniest parasitoid wasp laying into a fly larva to the bat catching a dung beetle on the wing. There is a page of information here, and a YouTube playlist of process videos. Each painting is 120×90cm oil on canvas, with a discreet solid wood tray frame. These pieces are available for sale, although committed for exhibition in Knepp and London (Society of Wildlife Artists annual exhibition). Having been exhibited at this prestigious juried show will contribute to the provenance of the artwork. if purchased, they will be available for collection from London (The Mall Galleries) or Bristol (my studio) from mid October.

Painted on location on the rooftop terrace where we practiced Pilates at sunrise and sunset in November 2025, c/o the wonderful Emily of Soma Pilates. Wednesday was the midweek Pilates-free night, so I took the chance to paint it without all the bodies!
I really enjoyed standing in the shade painting that bright yellow pot and the long shadows, listening to the call to prayer in the distance.
The original oil painting (sold) has been professionally scanned, and is available as a varnished print on canvas, mounted on board so it is practically indistinguishable from the original oil.

Painted in oil, from life, at the Tigmi resort in Morocco. Light was streaming through archways that led to a hidden courtyard to the right. The passageway ahead leads up to a simple fountain in a distant walled garden. Signed, varnished and unframed, painted on canvas board.

I loved how the blue pot on top of the wall matched the sky, and was briefly framed by a scudding cloud. The oranges were mostly green, with the occasional orange one peeping through the waxy leaves. Painted in oil, from life in the Moroccan resort Tigmi. I was drawn to how those sundrenched archways beautifully framed the intensely blue water feature. And the shadows of the trees, which moved quickly across the wall as the sun moved. Varnished and unframed, painted on canvas board.

Painted from life, in Cornwall, from the foot of Pendeen Lighthouse looking towards the tin mine chimneys. A linnet, that hopped around picturesquely on the rock, paused in a wonderful silhouetted moment. I have no idea how I dredged up that that's what it was, but turns out it is, and they are in Cornwall. Oil on canvas board, varnished in a solid wood white frame.
This lobster had been on a long journey, with banded claws. Delivered live to the restaurant, it was awaiting the pot. I sympathise with the lobster, but visually like the contrast between the natural colours of the lobster, the striking blue of the elastic band, and the texture of the cardboard box. Graham Pearce is a very popular Bath/Bristol model. He was thinking about retiring, and sat for this portrait contemplating the end of a very successful and fulfilling career as a life model. We had a most enjoyable afternoon, and talked at length. Turns out he missed it after all, and has returned to the life-drawing groups. This is painted in oil on canvas board, varnished and framed in a deep, white painted, solid wood frame.

As well as restoring this historic local structure, the renovation will mean the Weston Lifeboat Station on the island can be operational again. Painted from life after a trip to the market. Spanish sun suits tomato growing. I only wanted a couple to paint then eat, but the stallholder insisted I took the pepper that's lurking in the bag. I found a little sheltered niche overlooking the dilapidated Birnbeck Pier (destined for renovation since purchase by North Somerset Council). I was going to paint the Grand Pier, but 2 locals advised me this is more fetching. The Captain’s Cabin added to the scene with busy tables outside... There's something about brown estuarial water (as in Avon Gorge, and here in Weston further down the Bristol Channel) that I just love. Several friendly people stopped to chat, including a couple who'd got engaged on this very spot! Oil on 20x30" canvas on board, framed in a solid wood white bevelled frame approx 8cm deep.

BB8 spent May the Fourth (Star Wars Day) in Weston-super-Mare! He posed for his portrait in front of the Grand Pier. Immortalised in oil on canvas wrapped round a wooden frame, with composition sketch included. Although it was nearly lunchtime, the light was really just starting to hit the path on this April morning. As I painted it was also streaming through the trees behind me, forming beautiful shadows on the path. The local swimmers said this was the best day so far this year for water clarity and weather.
